Do Bacteria Producing Enzymes Work For Drain Maintenance?

Biologicals or bacteria producing enzymes have become the primary process for digesting waste in grease traps, sewer systems and septic systems.

Additionally these products are used to digest foul odors and stains in and around urinals and toilet fixtures, chemical toilets, refuse containers, upholstery, animal cages and runways. Custodial personnel apply these product to remove stains from urine, feces, vomit, blood, milk, wine, coffee and other organic matter, in their facilities.

This procedure has developed significantly over the years, with respect to performance, durability and the ability to tolerate pH and temperature fluctuations. A synergistic blend of specialized strains of live, but safe to use bacteria/ bacillus species - are chosen for their ability to consume organic matter and produce enzymes. These bacteria are facultative, so they are effective in both oxygenated and non-oxygenated environments. Multiple strains of bacteria are incorporated into the formulation, for the specific tasks, as required. The enzymes consume fats, protein, cellulose, urea, plant material and more.

Bacteria has the ability to reproduce every 20 minutes, so that in a matter of a few hours, millions of hungry strains are chomping away at organic matter found in drain lines and on surfaces. Our product Digest Plus is certified to contain 250 billion bacteria producing enzymes. In the process, nothing more is produced than harmless carbon dioxide, water and more enzymes.

Yes. these products are highly recommended and efficient for drain maintenance. Remember they take time to develop a colony and are not suitable for opening blocked drain lines. That's where the alkaline products such as our "Fireball" are appropriate. Blockages that are not organic in nature will not be alleviated with biologicals.

Bio-enzymatic action also is the only effective measure to resolve odor problems that occur sub-surface, such as grouting, concrete  and fabric. The odor neutralization is immediate and is successfully utilized in nursing homes and animal shelters.
